Reports To: Head of Operations

Location: Abuja, Nigeria (with occasional travel to project sites)

The Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Manager oversees the effective operation and maintenance of solar power plants, ensuring high performance, efficiency, and reliability. This includes regular inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs while adhering to safety and quality standards. The role requires deep technical expertise in solar systems, leadership skills, and a results-driven approach to achieving business objectives

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Management
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the company’s projects – solar mini-grid projects, C&I and similar projects.
    • Supervise engineers and technicians, providing guidance, task allocation, and performance support.
    • Develop and implement daily and weekly operational plans to ensure optimal site performance.
    • Schedule and execute periodic system checks, and preventive and corrective maintenance to uphold uptime and high operational standards.
  • Technical Support & Troubleshooting
    • Lead troubleshooting efforts for solar inverters, battery systems, and other equipment to minimize downtime.
    • Ensure all operations comply with safety protocols, quality standards, and operational procedures.
  • Asset Health & Energy Management
    • Monitor asset health and implement measures to prolong equipment life and reduce energy losses.
    • Conduct energy performance analysis and implement system optimizations for efficient utilization.
  • Reporting & Analysis
    • Prepare and present detailed operational reports, including daily, weekly, and monthly updates on site performance, asset health, and operational efficiency.
    • Collaborate with management on profitability analysis and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Build a motivated team culture, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
    • Conduct regular team training on new technologies, maintenance practices, and safety protocols. This can be done in collaboration with OEMs and other interested parties.
  • Process Development & Compliance
    • Lead the development and improvement of O&M processes and tools in line with ISO 9001 standards.
    • Ensure compliance with O&M guidelines, industry best practices, and local regulations.
    • Maintain detailed documentation for all O&M activities, including standard operating procedures, safety documents, and performance reviews.
  • Health & Safety
    • Partner with the HSEQ team to enforce health and safety protocols at all project sites.
    • Conduct regular safety audits and ensure a safe work environment for all personnel.
  • Resource Management
    • Maintain and organize company assets, including tools, equipment, vehicles, and spares.
    • Evaluate and recommend advanced remote monitoring and predictive maintenance solutions, as needed.

 

Qualifications

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. Master’s Degree is preferred

Certifications:

  • COREN Registered Engineer (mandatory).
  • NEMSA Certification (preferred).
  • Relevant certifications: PMP, Mini-Grid Design, SPVIS, NAPTIN, or equivalent.
  • Membership in professional associations (e.g., Nigerian Society of Engineers, International Association of Engineers).

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience, with at least 4 years in operations and maintenance, preferably in solar PV,  energy storage systems or energy distribution networks.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding and experience with Power Generation (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage and Hybrid generation) and Power Distribution (LV ,MV, HV).
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting, energy calculations, and maintenance practices.

Soft Skills:

  • Proven leadership and team management abilities across multiple locations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
