1. Will my roof support solar panels?

2. Is my roof location suitable?

For maximum efficiency, the solar panels have to be placed in such a way that there is no form of shading over them. Shading can occur due to tall trees or buildings around.

3. Is my home energy efficient?

The amount of energy you use depends on the energy produced from the solar panels. In order to avoid spending on an installation and not deriving the benefits, you have to make sure the appliances in your home are energy efficient. For example, incandescent bulbs that consume so much power should be changed to LED bulbs or other energy savers. Appliances such as refrigerators, televisions and more have energy efficient models nowadays. An energy audit will help you know if your home is energy efficient.

4. Is my installer trustworthy?

Going solar is an investment that should not be handed over to the wrong person. There are a lot of “scammers” around. Some would not do an audit, but just come and install a system at your home. Some will give you will low quality products when you paid for a superior quality. Others would abandon you and suddenly be unreachable when your system develops a fault. Is your installer trustworthy?

5. Are there payment plans in place?

Sometimes, one might not have the financial capacity to pay upfront for solar installation services. You could ask if your installer has flexible payments place that can accommodate your financial capacity.

6. Do I fully accept the terms and conditions?

Before you sign any contract, you should fully understand the content and ask questions. You can ask questions like: “Will I have free maintenance?”; “Is there any warranty on the products that will be used?”; “If the products are damaged due to technical installation fault, what happens?”; “What happens if my system is under-performing?” and more before signing any such contracts.
