From One Freezer to Three! Omolara’s Business Journey with Solar Energy

For seven years, Omolara relied on a generator to keep her small bar running. The cost of fuel, constant maintenance, and the limitations of unreliable power made business difficult. With only one freezer, she struggled to preserve drinks and perishables, limiting her ability to serve more customers and grow her earnings.

Everything changed when a solar mini-grid was deployed in her community. Through Havenhill’s Appliance Finance Scheme – an initiative aimed at boosting energy demand and supporting low-income micro-businesses in rural communities – and access to reliable electricity, Omolara was able to expand her business. She now owns three freezers, ensuring her bar is well-stocked and her customers are always satisfied.

“Before, making a profit was hard,” she recalls. “But now, if I need ₦100,000, I can see it without stressing too much.”

With increased earnings and a thriving business, Omolara has taken a bold step toward bigger dreams. She is currently building her own hotel and plans to relocate her business there within a year.
