Oyo State, Nigeria, 27/11/2020 – In fulfillment of our commitment to improving energy access to off-grid rural communities in Nigeria, Havenhill Synergy Limited in conjunction with the Federal Government of Nigeria, through its Implementing Agency – Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and the Oyo State Government officially commissioned a 100kWp solar hybrid mini-grid in Oyo State.
This project, partly funded by the Rural Electrification Fund under a Public-Private Partnership Model is a 100kWp solar hybrid mini-grid located in Budo-Are Community, Itesiwaju Local Government Area, Oyo State that will provide clean, safe, cost-effective and reliable electricity to the community members.
In his welcome address, the Community Head, Budo-Are community, Hamza Ibayiola said, “With this solar system, our community is no longer a village. We have been enjoying the light”.
The Managing Director, REA, Ahmad Salihijo said, “We believe that with this electricity, community members would optimize change and leverage on it to increase the productivity of the community.”
The Oyo State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Temilolu .N. Ashamu reiterated Oyo State government’s commitment to working with the private sector to deploy sustainable mini-grids across the state.
“What we are witnessing today is the outcome of a public-private partnership. Without some amount of subsidy, it will be difficult for private developers to electrify our off-grid rural communities. We are excited for the impact of this partnership.” said Olusegun Odunaiya, CEO Havenhill Synergy Ltd. The installed mini-grid, comprising a total of 292 solar panels, a 316kWh battery bank, 110kVA diesel generator, and a distribution network of 4.92km, will effectively provide reliable electricity to about 4000 people (residential, productive and commercial users) in the community.

The Nigerian Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is the Implementing Agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) tasked with the electrification of unserved and underserved communities. The Rural Electrification Fund (REF) provides equitable access to electricity across Nigeria to maximize the economic, social and environmental benefits of rural electrification grants, to promote off-grid electrification, and to stimulate innovative approaches to rural electrification. REF projects are administered using a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
