We are delighted to announce that Havenhill team emerged winner of the Global Prize for the Track Award 2A (Commercially Available Solutions Using Centralized Utility Models) at the IEEE Empower a Billion Lives Global Final competition in Baltimore, USA – an innovative competition to identify and promote cutting-edge, high-impact solutions to end energy poverty and lack of access to energy in the developing world.
About 1 billion of the world’s population do not have access to electricity, over 90 million are Nigerians. IEEE Empower a Billion Lives provides a platform for energy companies to demonstrate cost-effective energy access solutions and business models that can bring 21st-century technologies to the rural poor. Our solution presented at the competition is a Community-level Centralized Smart Solar Mini-Grid.
The online round of the competition started in May 2018 with 459 teams registered from about 70 countries around the world applying to showcase their solutions to end energy poverty. 157 proposals were accepted and reviewed. Of these, 82 teams were shortlisted to participate in five regional competitions.
Havenhill having won track 2A at the regional round in Johannesburg, South Africa in January, joined 23 other regional winners to participate in the Global Final in Baltimore, USA.
We will continue to innovate and develop more sustainable solutions towards ending energy poverty in rural off-grid communities in Nigeria.
Congratulations!!!
Thank you
